Why we love 9 Maple Street, Georgetown MA and list of recent improvements

Why we love
9 Maple Street, Georgetown MA
Nine Maple Street has been far more than a house, a residence, for my two daughters and myself these past nine years. It has been our family home. Its long history has contributed to our sense of rootedness as a family. The book, Georgetown, written in 1938 for the town’s centennial, makes reference to the constructing of a French-roofed cottage fronting Lincoln Square by John Perley in 1874 - Georgetown’s heyday. We like to think this is our home since it’s the only French-roofed cottage on the park.
Our home is unique in other ways. The umbrella tree in the front of our house is one from the Elm family, “Camper Down,” that survived the ramped Elm Disease. It provides wonderful shade to picnic under in the summer. We like that Lincoln Park creates a picture of a village green. At times concerts, children’s plays, afternoon school soccer games and neighborhood ball games are held in the park. Maple Street is on the route for all town parades and the High School Band will practice for these marching around the green. Of course, it’s an easy walk to the market. In the summer, we would walk to Georgetown’s beach on Rock Pond to swim or my nieces would play in the large jungle gym area and on Sunday evenings we would picnic at the free concerts held at the half-shell near the pond. Often neighbors get together for cookouts before these concerts. The holidays, however, were our favorite times in our home. The warmth and charm of our house made it easy to decorate. Our challenge was to get our window lights up first before the Victorian across the green got theirs up! We will miss our home but my daughters are independent now so it is time for me to simplify my life. Our memories are not included in the sale!
